Abstract: There are various compelling use cases of blockchain technology in the energy and utility sector. We survey the benefits and challenges of blockchain technology on these use cases. Most of these cases focus on the trade of energy. We introduce a novel use case on transparent disaster recovery from service disruptions. We describe the actors on the system, identify trust issues, and show the benefits of using blockchain in this use case.
